George D. Spache (Inducted 1974)
Tribute
As a charter member of the Board of the American Reading Forum I remember George Spache and Evie as integral to the organization’s beginnings and organizational direction. However, before we served on the board together, I studied at the University of Florida in classes under the direction of Dr. Spache. He was at first a professor with a national reputation of whom I was properly in awe. He later became a friend, colleague, and supporter. He could be a stern critic of one’s research and had no difficulty giving tough suggestions in the public arena, but he could also enjoy a good laugh and encourage a fledgling academician.
