Ludo verHoeven (2014 Inductee)
Biographical Statement
Dr. Ludo Verhoeven is currently President of SSSR. He is a professor at the Behavioural Science Institute of Radboud University Nijmegen and Director of the Learning & Plasticity research program with a primary focus on the relation between language and literacy in typical and atypical learners.
His research has complementary goals of contributing to the science of learning to read and advancing the application of reading research to multilingual environments. In line with this educational application goal, he is co-founder and scientific director of the National Literacy Education Center in the Netherlands. Dr. Verhoeven is also engaged in training a new generation of researchers in reading, as co-founder and current director of the International Summer School on Literacy Acquisition, which has hosted over 200 PhD students in week-long programs presenting reading research from all over the world. He is in the editorial board of Scientific Studies of Reading and four other scientific journals. Together with Charles Perfetti and Ken Pugh, he is currently involved in a series of workshops on the cross-linguistic study of reading.
Dr. Verhoeven organized the 23rd meeting of the Society in Porto, Portugal and the 24th meeting in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
