Biographical Statement
MaryEllen Vogt, Professor Emerita, California State University, Long Beach, holds a doctorate in Language and Literacy, from the University of California, Berkeley. Known nationally and internationally for her school-based literacy research, professional development, and literacy leadership, MaryEllen is author/co-author of 60+ articles and chapters, and 17 professional texts. She is co-creator of SIOP, the only empirically validated instructional model for developing the academic learning of English Learners. SIOP, with worldwide implementation, includes sites in Germany, where MaryEllen was a University of Cologne Visiting Scholar. MaryEllen is a member of California’s Reading Hall of Fame, is a recipient of CSULB’s Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award, and is a former President of the California Reading Association and International Literacy Association. In July, 2017, having been elected by peers, Dr. Vogt was inducted into the Reading Hall of Fame, an international organization of literacy researchers and scholars.
